Resolve "COM Port" Error When Opening NRL Barcode Scanning Software

If you see the error message below when trying to open the barcode software on the Plate Reader or Specimen Reception PCs, this is simple to resolve.

  1. Open the “Device manager” application (you can search for it in the Start Menu)

  2. Expand the Ports section by clicking the small arrow next to it and make a note of the COM number as shown below in red (this number may differ on different PCs)

  3. Open the barcode software and in the first window you see - in the Communication Parameters section change the COM Port number to match the number you saw earlier in Device Manager. Example below:


  4. Click OK and the software will connect as normal to the scanner
